- Great news from our programs:
- We just kicked off #TakeHomeTuesdays at K-Lo Market, offering delicious, nutritious prepared foods (rescued from Harvard, Whole Foods, & others) in convenient, family-sized portions, to support hardworking families and help kids come to school well fed and ready to learn.
- Field of Greens had a record year with over 6,000 lbs of food grown directly for folks in need. Thanks to all the volunteers who gave their time to weed, water, and harvest, and to Lindentree Farm for hosting us! [pictures!]

- Thanksgiving food rescue is in full swing:
- During the Thanksgiving holiday, we expect to deliver about 20,000 lbs in addition to our usual food rescue!
- Our coolers are full of collards, kale, squash, potatoes, carrots, onions, and fresh fruit as we deliver holiday special orders to our partners.
- We are distributing lots of farm-fresh produce for Thanksgiving, from sources like Waltham Fields Community Farm and The Boston Area Gleaners, who are once again harvesting 10 Tons in 10 Days for Food For Free to distribute. Check out this great Boston Globe piece!
- New food recipients:
- We’ve opened two new school-based free food markets in partnership with the MLK School and the Graham & Parks School, based on the successful model piloted by our K-Lo Market!
- We’re now delivering surplus food to Daily Table Dorchester, a new nonprofit grocery store.
- New food donors: thank you to Trader Joe’s Brookline and MIT Sloan School!
- We’ve been spotted on the news:
- We’re in Grist and The Guardian with stories about our fair Commonwealth’s progressive food waste ban and how Food For Free helps organizations donate good food instead of composting it!
- Check out Sasha’s op-ed in the Boston Business Journal!
- Watch Sasha talk hunger, food waste, and climate change on NBC Channel 7 and CBS Boston
- Boston Magazine wrote about our K-Lo Market
- RadioBDC interviewed Sasha about food waste and our Party Under the Harvest Moon
- Thank you for 3 fantastic benefit events:
- This year’s Party Under the Harvest Moon was our best yet, with more food, more friends, more funds raised, and dare we say, even more fun than ever! [pictures!]
- Our fab team of bike riders enjoyed a gorgeous fall bike ride and raised over $17,000 in this year’s Ride for Food! [pictures!]
