A fresh new look for Food For Free

Every week, Food For Free trucks travel many local roads delivering food to those who need it. Many folks recognize our white trucks by our distinctive farm truck logo. This logo is rich in history and has represented us for decades. However, we recently found ourselves at a crossroads with our logo for a few reasons.

Our original logo incorporates artwork donated by artist-activist Rini Templeton. Rini donated most of her artwork to many causes over a twenty-year period. We are incredibly grateful to Rini Templeton. However, we have been bound by a limitation. Rini’s estate owns the rights to her artwork. This means that we do not own our own logo.

“This has occasionally been challenging for us,” says our Executive Director, Sasha Purpura. “We cannot use our logo for some fundraising opportunities such as selling t-shirts without obtaining permission from Rini’s estate.”

While we love our original farm truck logo, it represents our past. Our work has broadened in recent years. Food rescue is and will continue to be a big part of what we do. However, based on the strategic planning we undertook in 2018, we are continuing to expand our focus on using schools as an entry point to address hunger for students and their families, adding more school markets, backpack programs, and college-based Family Meals sites. With these strategic changes, we knew it was time for our look to grow up and reflect who we are today.

We began a redesign process last summer for both our logo and our website. We’re pleased to share that this process is now complete. Our new logo keeps the earthy colors that have long been part of our identity. Our beloved farm truck has retired to greener parking spots. It has been replaced by a more accurate representation of our trucks. You can check out our fresh new look on our new website which was launched earlier this month. We are grateful to our website developer Natalie Dudas-Thomas and our logo designer Raymond Burnett for helping us bring our new look to life!
