Food For Free Announces 8 New Grants From Local Foundations and Businesses

Non-Profit Provides Hunger Relief to Families and Individuals across Eastern Massachusetts

Cambridge, MA (November 1, 2023)Food For Free, the Cambridge and Somerville-based non-profit dedicated to providing 150,000 people across Eastern Massachusetts facing food insecurity with reliable access to fresh and nutritious food, has received 8 grants from a variety of community and corporate organizations. These are grants that were received between June and October 2023 and will help Food For Free continue to provide food to members of the community who need it most.

The grants came from the following community and corporate organizations:

Anonymous Corporate Donor

Audax Charitable Foundation

Biogen Foundation

Cambridge Community Foundation

Cummings Foundation

David E. Retick and Christopher D. Mello Foundation

Liberty Mutual Foundation

Monogram Foods Loves Kids Foundation

The Audax Foundation and the Biogen Foundation have provided significant support towards Food For Free’s Heat-n-Eats program. Heat-n-Eats makes it possible to distribute prepared food—a category of rescued food that is difficult to utilize and might otherwise end up in landfills—in a way that is extremely convenient for people who face barriers to cooking for themselves. These barriers include lack of kitchen space, expensive grocery costs, insufficient time, and lack of transportation to grocery stores that ultimately contribute to food insecurity. In FY24, Food For Free will expand the creation of Heat-n-Eats meals by rescuing an additional 60,000 pounds of food.

The Cummings Foundation has invested significantly in the overall growth and expansion of Food For Free. This funding will support our organization as we keep our programs running efficiently to better serve our community.

Food For Free is grateful for the continued support of community and corporate partners.
