Meet Cindy: Food For Free Volunteer

Food For Free Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Cindy.

Today we’re pleased to introduce you to Cindy Sragg of Belmont, who volunteers with Food For Free because she is aligned to our belief that everyone should have consistent access to fresh, healthy, delicious food.

Cindy’s love language is food, and she spreads that love not only to herself and her loved ones, but to coworkers and people in need in her community as well. We salute you, Cindy!

Tell us something about yourself!

I live in Belmont and work as a patent paralegal for a Waltham biotech.  I enjoy baking for friends and coworkers.  I cook for several volunteer programs (i.e., Community Cooks, Belmont Helps, and was on the board of Saturday’s/Sunday’s Bread soup kitchen for more than 10 years), serving families or communities in need. I have also been a mentor for over 20 years to a developmentally disabled woman through the Friend-2-Friend program.

What is your favorite Food For Free volunteer shift?

I like volunteering for Healthy Eats box packing – Sunday morning is my favorite shift.

What motivated you to start volunteering with Food For Free?

Most of my volunteer work has to do with feeding people.  I am a big-time foodie.  I love to eat, and aside from enjoying time spent in the kitchen, I believe there should not be any sort of political or economical barriers to eating.  Food is the one universal/common denominator: everyone needs to eat, no matter who they are or what they can afford.

What is a big highlight or fond memory you have of volunteering with us?

I have a fondness for the old Food For Free days in the Inman Street basement.  Once, Simon, me and just one other person showed up on a sweltering summer day to pack boxes – there were last minute volunteer cancellations.  I don’t know how we got it done, but we did!
