Food For Free Receives Support From Cambridge Community Foundation Grant

Food For Free Provides Hunger Relief to Families and Individuals Impacted by COVID-19 in Cambridge and Somerville

Cambridge, MA (June 30, 2020) – Food For Free, the Cambridge-based, non-profit organization dedicated to providing every member of the Greater Boston community with reliable access to fresh and nutritious food, announced today that they have received a $50,000 grant from the Cambridge Community Foundation. Thanks to this grant, Food for Free will be providing hunger relief to families and individuals impacted by COVID-19 in Cambridge and Somerville.

This grant was possible thanks to funding from the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief fund, which works in concert with regional community foundations and nonprofit leaders to support those across the state most impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis, focusing on essential frontline workers and vulnerable populations including the homeless, immigrant populations, people with disabilities, and those facing food insecurity.

“We are so grateful to be receiving this grant during such a critical time. The pandemic has had a heavy impact on our economy, and food insecurity has dramatically increased,” said Sasha Purpura, the executive director of Food for Free. “We are so happy to be able to continue providing families and individuals in need with nutritious food and to be a contributing part of relieving hunger in Cambridge and Somerville.”
