Food For Free Appoints Wayne Procope as Chief Financial Officer

SOMERVILLE, CAMBRIDGE, MA (July 28, 2023) — Food For Free, the leading food rescue and redistribution nonprofit in Eastern Massachusetts, is pleased to announce the appointment of Wayne Procope, as the nonprofit’s new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Procope, who was raised in Roxbury, and a veteran U.S. Army Officer, brings over 20+ years of extensive senior management experience in diverse industries, including retail, real-estate, consumer goods, and wholesale distribution. His impressive track record of financial leadership and value creation makes him a valuable addition to the Food For Free team.

As CFO, Procope will oversee all financial reporting for Food For Free, collaborating across the organization’s accounting, human resources and information technology departments. His work will play a pivotal role in managing grants and donations that fund the nonprofit’s year-round efforts to minimize food waste and fight hunger across the region.

“The name ‘Food For Free’ really resonated with me, as I’ve always had a desire to do something more meaningful in my work,” says Procope, who was raised in a community that relied on public school lunches and understands the real impact these services have on food insecurity. “The mission of Food For Free to provide food to those in need is humbling, and I am honored to support the team in their effort to make a difference in the lives of many.”

“Wayne’s expertise in financial management, coupled with his passion for truly making a difference in the community, aligns perfectly with our organization’s mission,” says Marena Burnett, Chief Development Officer of Food For Free. “We are excited to have Wayne be a special part of our leadership team as we continue to expand our impact across Eastern Massachusetts to ensure people have continued and reliable access to nutrition.”

Procope holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Salem State University. When not in the office, he can often be found playing tennis on the South Shore.

Food For Free acquires rescued, donated, and purchased food from a number of sources to meet the increased demand to ensure everyone in the community—regardless of age, income, or ability—has consistent access to nutrition. As one of the nation’s first food rescue programs, the nonprofit now serves more than 150,000 Massachusetts residents who are food insecure and distributes over 7.5 million pounds of nutritious fresh and prepared foods annually.
