Spring into Action! How to Get Involved with Food For Free This Season

Food For Free's Project Bread Walk For Hunger Team

Now that it’s getting warmer, it’s the perfect time to get involved with Food For Free again! From volunteer opportunities to fundraising events, there are a lot of fun ways to support us. Here are just some of the ways you can help us build healthier communities this spring:

Volunteer: Food For Free’s programs depend on the passion and dedication of our volunteers! We are always looking for volunteers to assist with Home Delivery, the Cambridge & Somerville Weekend Backpack Programs, and Family Meals. We also occasionally need volunteer support at our events, like Empty Bowls coming up in April. Also, be sure to stay tuned for exciting news about the new location of our Family Meals program! We’ll be moving into a new kitchen conveniently located in Kendall Square very soon. We’ll need plenty of volunteers once we move, so make sure you’re on our volunteer list! Learn more about volunteer roles and fill out a volunteer application at foodforfree.org/volunteer.

Empty Bowls is a benefit dinner hosted by Mudflat Pottery School in Somerville featuring beautiful handmade bowls and delicious soup from local restaurants. Plus, you’ll even get to take home a pretty new bowl of your choosing! Not only is this a fun, family-friendly event, but the price of your ticket helps Food For Free fill empty bowls all year round. Individual and family tickets available now.

Food For Free's Project Bread Walk For Hunger Team

Walk for Hunger: Join the Food For Free team for the 51st annual Walk for Hunger on Sunday, May 5th at Boston Common. A long-loved event, Project Bread’s Walk For Hunger has helped provide over 1 billion meals to hungry people and has been a vehicle to raise funds to support and expand community solutions to hunger throughout the state. The Walk For Hunger is open to people of all ages, and kids 18 and under walk free! There are multiple ways to participate, including a 20 mile walk, a 3 mile walk, and a 5K run. Participants are encouraged to raise at least $250. Join the Food For Free team here.

Cause + Event Boston 5K Run/Walk: If you’d prefer a walk outside of downtown Boston, check out Cause + Event Boston on Sunday, May 12 in Arlington. Join the Food For Free team, and at least half of your registration fee will be donated to us after the event. You can even register as a “virtual runner” if you’d prefer to participate on your own time or in a different location. This event will feature lots of free children’s activities, including a Kid’s Fun Run. Register at causeandeventboston.com.

Thank you for continuing to support Food For Free and participating in our events and fundraising efforts. We are so grateful for your help!
