Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Midori, Just Eats Volunteer

Meet Midori: Just Eats Volunteer

Food For Free’s Just Eats Grocery Box program connects our network of community partners in Cambridge, Somerville, Boston, and Chelsea, including food pantries, low-income housing sites, and schools with nutritious food to safely distribute to families in need.

Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, like Midori, Food For Free is able to produce thousands of family boxes of food every week. This program fills a critical gap for hungry families with fresh food items such as potatoes, apples, and oranges, as well as staples like rice and dried beans, and we wouldn’t be able to do it without the generosity of our community members!

Meet Midori, one of our Just Eats volunteers with one of the biggest hearts! We had a chance to learn more about her experiences giving back. Read more about Midori’s inspiration to volunteer with Food For Free and make a difference in her community:

I wanted to help people in need and contribute to the community!

What makes this volunteer experience a meaningful use of your time?

I am a housewife now, so I have a lot of free time. By giving this free time to Food For Free, I can help a lot of people in need. That is very meaningful for me.

What is the biggest personal benefit you receive as a volunteer with your organization?

I really appreciate meeting other kind volunteers and the Food For Free staff.

Working alongside other volunteers and packing boxes of groceries together, I feel accomplished at the end of every volunteer day!

Do you have a quote or a saying that inspires you?:

情けは人のためならず。This is a Japanese saying that means “one good turn deserves another”. Volunteering is not only to help people in need but also I also do it for myself.

We are always seeking dedicated people to help support our programs through any one of our volunteer shifts. For more information and to get involved, visit www.foodforfree.org/volunteer!
