Volunteer Spotlight: Margery Beinfeld Hates Waste and Loves Leftovers

Programs: Family Meals and Field of Greens

I have been volunteering with Food for Free for about three and a half years. I saw one of the trucks parked in Cambridge and thought it was a good idea so I looked it up online and signed up for the Family Meals program while it was still at the church in Harvard Square. Later I started going to Field of Greens, too.

Why do you volunteer with us and what do you enjoy about volunteering?

I volunteer with FFF because I love their mission of reducing food waste and helping food insecure people. On a personal level, I get to meet lots of great people and socialize with them. It makes me happy. Plus I get to occasionally take home amazing leftovers that we can’t process and would hate to waste.

Any other fun details about yourself that you’d like to share?

I guess I have always been a foodie. My mom grew up on a ranch in Texas and was an amazing cook and gardener. I am proud that both of my kids are, too.
