Volunteering as Part of the Solution: Ending Hunger With Food For Free

April 17-23, 2022 is Volunteer Appreciation Week!

Since 1974, this week in April has served as an opportunity to recognize those that dedicate their time and effort to the causes they care about.

Volunteerism empowers individuals to turn purpose and passion into meaningful change. When we answer the call to make a difference, we find solutions to our most persistent problems, create stronger communities, and a more just society.

Food For Free volunteers come from all walks of life and support our organization in many ways. Volunteers build relationships with our Healthy Eats clients and pack rescued food into convenient, microwavable Heat-n-Eats trays. Our volunteers grow food through Field of Greens, pack grocery boxes full of fresh food, and show up when needed. Our volunteers are people who have used the emergency food system themselves, college students who find us for a semester, retired community members wanting to dedicate their precious time, and local employees participating in a service day with their company.

Their experiences may be different – but they all have one thing in common: a commitment to ending hunger in Eastern Massachusetts.

Meet some of our Food For Free volunteers through our recent Volunteer features below and learn more about the dedication and spirit each one brings to our mission!
